Yesterday was the opening of our group show ‘Degrees of Vision’ at Bankfield Museum, Halifax. The hanging team did a grand job, and the show looks extremely professional. There are some clever juxtapositions of pieces, and the connections between artwork and architecture have been cleverly thought-out. The show runs until 31st October, so there is plenty time to plan a visit if you are in the area.
I brought my work home from Rochdale yesterday. The art trail attracted a lot of visitors who wouldn’t normally look at art, and there were some great comments in the book. People seemed to appreciate having something different to look at in the shopping centre rather than the same old shops. There were over 600 visitors during the two days, and many comments about doing the same again next year. I enjoyed the opportunity to have my work viewed by a new audience, and hope they enjoyed my work.
I am now preparing for the next exhibition of my BA group at Bankfield Museum in Halifax, which will be opening on 4th September. I’ve made a painting especially for this exhibition, and I am even beginning to have faith that it might dry! The folks at Winsor and Newton technical department have been very helpful when I had a query about drying time. I just realise how much there still is to learn about the technical properties of the materials we use.
Using empty shops and offices in Rochdale, the Beehive Art Trail showcases the work of 25 local artists as well as providing opportunities to make art. It’s part of the Rochdale Feel Good Festival on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th August 2010.
Another chance to see the small paintings from my BA show. I have been invited to exhibit them in Rochdale as part of the 2010 Feel Good Festival on 13th and 14th August. More information later.
We went to the opening of my BA group follow-on show at Dean Clough last Saturday. The gallery have described our show as “a genuinely impressive selection of graduation work …”
We are currently setting up our graduate exhibition at Dean Clough Galleries in Halifax. We will be opening this Saturday 19th June 2010, and the exhibition runs through until the 18th July, open 10am – 5pm, 7 days a week. There will be a whole range of exhibitions opening there this Saturday, and there is a great Cafe downstairs. Sound tempting enough? This is one of two paintings that I will be showing there.
